About this route

The relative flatness of the 136-mile (217 km) Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path makes this National Trail a perfect first running holiday.

The two paths present great contrasts. The Norfolk Coast Path offers windswept coastal beauty, including some lovely beaches and dunes, while the Peddars Way provides easy running through inland heaths, woodlands and farmland.

With less than ten metres of ascent per kilometre, this is definitely a great choice for those with an allergy to hills.

Extra Nights & Rest Days

The Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path offers plenty of differing scenery, with the various stops along the trail being equally as diverse. Should you wish to extend your holiday by adding an extra day or two, there are plenty of options available to help you make the most of the extra time.

The village of Castle Acre is a good choice for a rest day. Beyond the Bailey Gate that stands as a reminder of the village's extensive walls are the remains of a Norman Castle and Clunian Priory, giving those interested in history plenty to explore. There are also a number of shops, pubs and tearooms to enjoy at your leisure, or you could even venture out on a boat trip to nearby Blakeney Point and go seal spotting for the day.

The Victorian town of Cromer is another wonderful place to explore, with a famous pier, a proud tradition of RNLI service and a Life Boat Museum, as well as great independent shops, restaurants, cafes and galleries. This vibrant atmosphere, alongside fantastic Blue Flag beaches, the tallest church in Norfolk and an attractive seafront, make it a great choice for an extra night and a suitable place to celebrate the completion of your trail running holiday. Bask in your fantastic achievement while sampling Cromer's tasty locally-caught crabs as the sun sets over the sea; the perfect end to your run.
