About this route

The 190-mile (304 km) Coast to Coast trail running holiday carries you through three National Parks on its direct but dramatic route across England.

It’s in at the deep end with the country’s fell-running capital, the Lake District, to kick things off, followed by the windswept yellow hills of the Yorkshire Dales, the heathery, peaty Pennines, and the wildness of the North York Moors, purple in late summer.

With fewer waymarks and some hill descents that absolutely require a compass, the Coast to Coast favours the seasoned outdoorsperson and will test your ability to navigate.

There’s great satisfaction to be had in working your way from one shore to finish at another, seeing the country change as you go.

This route can be run in the opposite direction upon request. Please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Extra Nights & Rest Days

As this trail spans the width of England from coast to coast, it should come as no surprise that it passes through countless fantastic towns and villages that are worth exploring. By adding in a couple of extra nights into your holiday, you will have plenty of time to really make the most of these areas.

There is plenty to see in Grasmere, particularly for fans of literature. Here you can visit Dove Cottage, the best-known home of William Wordsworth, as well as the school where Wordsworth once taught and St. Oswald's church, the last resting place of the Wordsworth family. Now a popular tourist destination, Grasmere has plenty of gift shops and places to eat, as well as a number of gardens and lakeside walking paths to enjoy.

Richmond is another excellent option for an extra night?s stay, with its unique character and beauty which has changed very little through time. The town has quaint cobbled streets and a bustling market place, as well as a fascinating Norman castle, an unusual church and a Georgian theatre to enthral those interested in the local history. Richmond also boast many pubs, restaurants and shops to choose from, including sports and health food shops, leisure centres and health spas for all of your running needs.

Once you have completed your holiday, a popular location in which to celebrate your achievement and rest your legs is Robin Hood's Bay; home to sandy beaches, great places to eat and the intriguing Dinosaur Coast. Also within easy reach of Robin Hood?s Bay is the fantastic town of Whitby. Not only is there an attractive harbour to visit, several fascinating museums to explore and the infamous ruined abbey atop a hill in which Dracula was said to have resided, but there is a variety of shops and some of the most famous restaurants and fish and chip shops in the UK. There are also a couple of sports massage clinics in Whitby, which you can take advantage of to help your muscles recover from your trail running holiday.

You can add rest days at any of the overnight stops:

Extra night (Standard)
£60.00 per person / per night
Extra night (Grasmere)
£65.00 per person / per night
