Covid-19 and Existing Holiday Bookings

Contours Holidays are continually monitoring the worldwide events associated with the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Read on for answers to common questions concerning the impact the virus might have on your holiday.

The below information was last updated on 29th June 2020.

Will my holiday go ahead?

On the 21st March 2020, we took the difficult decision to suspend all holidays on a rolling six-week basis as the situation developed. As of the 1st June, we stopped doing this, as the UK government had indicated that accommodations and other hospitality businesses may be allowed to open from the 4th July; as of the 23rd of June, this re-opening as been confirmed, and we will be going ahead as planned. Already-booked tours from the 17th of July will be going ahead.

If the situation changes and it again becomes impossible for your tour to go ahead, we will be in touch as soon as possible to discuss the next steps. Please keep an eye on the email account you used to get set up with us, including your junk inbox, and contact us immediately if you have any questions.

What happens if official advice changes?

If the UK government cancels its current plans to re-open hospitality businesses, or the specifics of that re-opening render our tours inoperable, we will resume postponing tours free of charge, and will contact you as soon as possible to arrange this.

Can I cancel my holiday?

For holidays which have not been suspended, our standard cancellation policy applies. However, if you are concerned about holidaying during the pandemic and would like to walk at a later date, please let us know, as we are more than happy to postpone your tour for your safety. A fee may be applicable.

Can I claim on my travel insurance?

We always highly recommend that you take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy that will cover any lost holiday costs in the event that you need to cancel or are unable to travel, whether you are a UK national or travelling in from abroad. We advise you check with your travel insurance provider to see if you will be covered for a cancellation due to Coronavirus. The specifics of your situation will heavily influence this; most policies, disappointingly, do not appear to cover government-mandated shutdowns, but if your transport has been cancelled by your airline and therefore you cannot travel to reach our tours, your policy could cover this.

If you are traveling from abroad

At present, the UK government has put in place a 14-day quarantine for individuals travelling from overseas. For this reason, we understand that some of our overseas customers may wish to avoid this imposed isolation, and we are happy to postpone tours upon request. We do also advise customers to keep a close eye on these restrictions, should the government amend them in the near future.

What if my tour does go ahead?

Inevitably, some aspects of your tour will be different under even partial lockdown. Please refer to our Booking Under Coronavirus page for full advice on this, and contact us if you have any further questions.
